SUNRISE-6G at AIOTI Days & Open Source Community Day in Madrid!

The SUNRISE-6G project proudly participated in the two major co-located events held in Madrid on 22–24 September 2025, where open source, standardisation, and 6G innovation were at the forefront.

Representing SUNRISE-6G, Dr. Vasileios Theodorou, Head of Research Collaboration at Intracom Telecom and Chair of the ETSI SDG OpenOP, contributed to both events with insightful interventions:

  • AIOTI Days (22 September)
Dr. Theodorou joined a panel on 5G/6G initiatives across Europe, highlighting the transformative potential of SUNRISE-6G in enabling intelligent, resilient, and secure digital infrastructures.

  • Open Source Community Day (23–24 September)
On Day 2, he delivered a keynote presentation titled:
“OpenOP: The ETSI SDG to build an open-source Operator Platform for the Telco Cloud.”

OpenOP is a new ETSI Software Development Group initiative that builds on insights and contributions from SUNRISE-6G and is supported by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). Its goal is to enable 6G testbed federation, define standardised capability-exposure APIs, and provide a vendor-agnostic operator platform. This initiative fosters collaboration across telecom operators, cloud providers, and AI developers, advancing Europe’s 6G ecosystem.

By bridging research, standardisation, and open-source development, SUNRISE-6G and OpenOP together accelerate the path toward 6G, ensuring interoperability, openness, and impact across sectors.
