Lenovo's Standards Contributions: Enhancing SUNRISE-6G Innovations
Lenovo has recently made significant contributions to the 3GPP standards, advancing key mechanisms to improve performance for use cases highly relevant to the SUNRISE-6G project. These contributions, presented during the October and November 2024 meetings, underscore Lenovo’s commitment to driving innovative solutions that align with SUNRISE-6G’s mission of building sustainable, high-performance 6G infrastructures.

The highlights include:
- Relaying Media Metadata with Encapsulation Protocols: Innovative methods enable efficient media delivery and quality of service for applications like XR, which is crucial for SUNRISE-6G’s federated testbed experimentation.
- NAT Functionality in Backhaul PDU Sessions: Enhancements ensuring reliable routing and data accuracy in networks with advanced NAT scenarios, supporting seamless experimentation with heterogeneous infrastructures.
- Energy Saving through Policy-Controlled Operations: Mechanisms enabling subscription-based energy efficiency and sustainable network operations, a cornerstone of SUNRISE-6G’s environmental goals.
- Support for Multi-Modal Services: Introduction of Multi-modal Service ID (MMSID) to optimise the delivery of synchronised, immersive media use cases.
- QoS Coordination for Mobile Metaverse Applications: Advanced techniques to ensure ultra-low latency and synchronised performance for next-generation XR and metaverse services.
Each contribution strengthens the foundations of SUNRISE-6G, supporting key objectives such as enabling advanced media transport, promoting energy-efficient networks, and realising immersive experiences through XR and metaverse applications.
These standards contributions pave the way for ground-breaking experimentation on the SUNRISE-6G federated testbeds, furthering the project’s vision for next-generation communication technologies.
