Embarking on a Journey of Innovation: University of Oulu Explores Luleå's Sub-Terranean Laboratory

In an electrifying convergence of minds, the Robotics and AI (RAI) group and the Centre for Distance-spanning Technology (CDT) at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) welcomed esteemed colleagues from the University of Oulu (UOULU) on Friday, April 19, 2024. The occasion? A pivotal meeting within the realm of our ambitious European venture, SUNRISE-6G (Sustainable Federation of Research Infrastructures for Scaling-up Experimentation in 6G).

Beyond the customary discussions that characterise such collaborative endeavours, the visit took an exhilarating turn as the UOULU team embarked on an immersive journey through RAI’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. From witnessing cutting-edge robotics platforms in action to delving into the intricate plans for deploying 6G networks in underground environments, every moment was infused with the spirit of innovation and exploration.

Of particular interest was the tour of RAI’s Sub-Terranean laboratory nestled within the Mjölkuddsberget tunnel facility, a stone’s throw away from LTU’s bustling campus. Here, the intricate details of our vision for the future of telecommunications unfolded, setting the stage for ground-breaking advancements in complex robotics applications.

As the dust settles on this transformative encounter, both parties are poised to leap into action, armed with a clear roadmap and unwavering determination. From refining use cases to fine-tuning network architectures, every discussion has paved the way for a brighter, more connected future.

With anticipation reaching a fever pitch, we eagerly anticipate the launch of our underground 6G testbed—an embodiment of our collective vision and relentless pursuit of innovation.

Stay tuned as we continue to push the boundaries of possibility and reshape the landscape of tomorrow, one breakthrough at a time!”
